Contains Lissitzky's article "The Synagogue of Mohilev" with his illustrations, and Henryk Berlewi's "Jewish Artists in Russia" with reproductions of art by Lissitzky, Marc Chagall, Natan Altman and David Shterenberg. Lissitzky made a pilgrimage to the famed Mohilev Synagogue during a revival of Jewish arts in Russia just prior to the Revolution. "Searching for our identity, for the character of our times," he recalled in the article, "we attempted to look into old mirrors and tried to root ourselves in so-called 'folk art.'"
