Publisher's decorated wrappers with self-portrait by Lebedev. Wrappers detached at backstrip with light spotting and tanned at extremities. One of 1500 copies. Rare exhibition catalogue of works by the great Soviet Constructivist artist at the State Russian Museum in Leningrad. Although best known for his picture books with Samuil Marshak, Lebedev was also admired for his female nudes and Cubist compositions.

4to. 36 pp. Printed wrappers. Light finger-soiling, two or three creases at fore-edge, wrappers rubbed. An early monograph on the great Constructivist painter and illustrator. It concentrates on Lebedev's pictures of female nudes, dancers and musicians. Punin was one of the most important art critics and curators of the early Soviet era. Anatoli Lunacharsky appointed him Head of the Petrograd Committee for Education (NARKOMPROS), People's Commissar of the Russian Museum and the Heritage Museum. He also married the poet Anna Akhmatova. In 1949, he was arrested for alleged "anti-Soviet" activity and died in the Gulag just months after Stalin died.
