Folio (325 x 240 mm). [vi] pp. With 50 chromolithographed plates, several heightened in gilt. Loose as issued in period cloth portfolio. Text lightly toned, a few plates with scattered light spots, portfolio rubbed.
Provenance: Jacques B. Polonski of Paris (bookseller's ticket on front pastedown); Vladimir Nikitich Vitov, Moscow economist (blindstamps to text).

FIRST EDITION. Prince Grigory Gagarin was an army general, diplomat, and artist. From 1848 to 1855 he lived in Tiflis and spent part of his time restoring frescoes in the Georgian cathedrals.
