BLOK, ALEKSANDR ALEKSANDROVICH. 1880-1921.
Autograph Manuscript Poem, 1/2 p, 4to, "I pozdno i temno. Pokinu bez zhelanii..." [It's late and dark. I will leave without regrets...], written in pencil on the inside back wrapper of Sergei Rachmaninov's Moments musicaux pour piano, dated February 27, 1916. Custom clamshell box.

In his short life, A.A. Blok became one of the greatest modern Russian poets. Perhaps his best-known work is "Dvenadtset" [The Twelve] in which he compared twelve Bolshevik soldiers to the Twelve Apostles. This poem was written for a friend, the composer and author Ivan Nikolaevich Kishko, on a visit to Kiev. It comprises three stanzas of four lines each, all in the great Symbolist poet's hand.
