A U.S. Model 1817 percussion conversion 'common' rifle by Simeon North
exhibiting probable Confederate use
Tapered round 36 inch barrel in .54 caliber, right side of the muzzle fitted with saber bayonet lug, the lug marked 31; open rear sight; breech marked US/JCB/P. Lock with standard markings and dated 1826, the bolster-style conversion of fairly crude quality. Iron furniture of standard pattern. Full stock with faint inspector's cartouche behind the counterplate, left side of buttstock incised S (backwards) W 1862. Ramrod with brass trumpet-shaped tip.
Condition: Good. Mottled grey metal showing areas of light pitting and scattered marks. Wood with numerous marks and several chips to comb.
