An American officer's dress baldric
circa 1855-85
The brass-trimmed black leather pouch lined in red leather, the cover fitted with gilt brass spread eagle insignia; the light blue silk and gold bullion shoulder strap lined with black leather and fitted with rectangular brass buckle with keeper, the front with 1861 style gilt brass baldric device chained to a gilt brass lion mask.
Condition: Leather with heavily curdled surface but very sound; fittings and insignia retain much gilt finish.
