A lot of two militia officer's/nco swords
circa 1840-70
Comprising: 1) Straight 29 1/2 inch blade of oval section with 14 inch panel etched with florals and panoplies featuring American flags. Scrolling brass crossguard and pistolgrip pommel molded with stylized floral designs. Chain guard. Reeded bone grip. See Plate 114 of Peterson's The American Sword for this pattern, identified there as a militia staff officer's sword. 2) Straight 25 1/2 inch blade of diamond section with 8 inch panel etched with florals and panoplies and with US on one side. Brass guard with spatulate quillons, the languets in the form of Federal shields; brass helmet pommel; reeded bone grip. Brass-mounted leather scabbard, the throat with two rings and frog stud. The classic nco sword, see Peterson, Fig. 11.
Condition: 1) Blade with dark patina and generally sharp engraving. Hilt with unpolished age patina. 2) Excellent blade. Unpolished hilt. Excellent scabbard, the throat with traces of gilt finish.
