A Civil War era non-regulation foot officer's sword
Wilhelm Walsheid, Solingen
Slightly curved 32 inch Iron Proof blade with 11 inch panel etched with scrollwork, US and spread eagle with E Pluribus Unum riband. Maker-marked ricasso with brass Proved disc. Steel hilt of British form with cut-out of Federal eagle and large US. Grey shagreen and copper wire-wrapped grip. Iron two-ring scabbard.
Condition: Generally clean blade showing light spotting and some small areas of light pitting. Hilt and scabbard with dark patina and some light pitting. Grip fine.
