An American eagle pommel officer's sword
circa 1820-40
Narrow, straight 32 inch blade with 15 inch blued and gilt panel engraved with conventional florals and panoplies. Silvered brass stirrup hilt, both languets molded with Federal eagles; knucklebow molded with a panoply of arms on the exterior side; ferrule molded with repeating plant forms; eaglehead pommel with back strap. Ribbed bone grip. Silver-plated brass scabbard engraved with leaf and laurel panels and fitted with suspension rings and frog stud.
Condition: Blade with scattered light pitting and with considerable spotting partially obscuring the blued and gilt decoration. Hilt retaining perhaps 30-35% silver finish. Grip with minor age cracks. Scabbard retains 65-75% silver plating and with two minor dents above the drag.
