An unusual Civil War era non-regulation foot officer's sword
Slightly curved 31 1/2 inch Iron Proof blade with 7 1/2 inch panels etched and engraved with foliage; one side with US, the other with spread eagle and E Pluribus Unum riband. Gilt brass hilt similar to the 1850 pattern but with extra branch, the variant pommel molded with an unusual spread eagle. Grey shagreen and copper wire-wrapped grip. Browned iron two-ring scabbard with simple gilt brass mounts.
Condition: Generally clean blade showing some dark spotting/light pitting partially obscuring the decoration. Hilt retains 40-50% gilt finish. Grip fine. Scabbard body with perhaps 40-50% browned finish, the mounts with most gilt finish remaining.
