A U.S. Model 1850 Staff & Field officer's sword
Slightly curved 29 1/2 inch blade with 17 inch panel etched and engraved with scrollwork and panoplies and on one side US. Brass hilt of standard pattern. Grey shagreen and brass wire-wrapped grip. Brass mounted black leather scabbard, the throat with frog stud.
Condition: Blade with mottled grey patina showing some light pitting and fairly clear decoration. Grip with considerable losses to shagreen. Scabbard scuffed but sound, the drag with numerous dents.
