A U.S. Model 1833 foot artillery sword
Broad, straight 19 inch double edge blade with three fullers and marked on either side US/8. Gilt brass hilt of regulation pattern but without the three iron rivets, the guard marked on either side 8 US A. Gilt brass-mounted black leather scabbard, the throat stamped twice 8 and with inspection mark WAT on the drag finial for William A. Thornton, reverse of finial stamped T (or J) H.
Condition: Blade with some minor pitting. Hilt and scabbard mounts retain much gilt finish. Leather with minor surface cracking.
