A deluxe French Empire general officer's saber
Curved 32 inch blade with broad 26 inch fuller, the upper half etched with scrolls and florals, the lower half blued and gilt and engraved with conventional panels of florals and panoplies. Gilt ricasso with maker's mark W. Gilt brass three bar hilt molded with florals and acanthus. Shagreen-covered grip bound with copper wire. Brass scabbard engraved with long panels of florals, the suspension mounts finely molded with neo-classical female masks.
Condition: Fine blade retaining 70-80% of the blued and gilt decoration with some scattered patches of spotting/light pitting. Hilt retains probably 25-30% gilt finish. Scabbard with dark, unpolished patina, the suspension mounts and engraved areas retaining much gilt finish. Grip excellent. Scabbard with one dent on reverse.
