A composite English dish hilt rapier
mid-17th century
Narrow 36 inch blade with 8 inch pierced fuller at the forte. Iron hilt comprising shallow dish-guard, the outside pierced and chiselled with a design of feathers repeated on the quillon block, straight quillons of squared section with spherical finials and conforming knucklebow and globular pommel. Spirally-grooved grip bound with twisted copper and iron wire.
Condition: Showing areas of pitting overall. Knucklebow restored. Pommel associated. Grip rewrapped.
