A sterling silver-mounted Scottish regimental dirk for the Gordon Highlanders by Hamilton & Inches
Edinburgh, circa 1886-7
Straight 12 inch single edged blade with 4 inch false edge, 6 1/2 and 6 3/4 inch fullers, notched spine and marked on one side Hamilton & Inches. Sterling silver-mounted hilt, the front sides of the ferrule cast and chased with thistles, the rounded pommel with cairn gorm. Ebonized bogwood hilt carved with Celtic interlace set with silver studs, the pommel support carved with leafage. Sterling silver-mounted black leather-covered scabbard, the throat with Edinburgh hallmarks of Hamilton & Inches and date mark for 1886-7. Front of throat with applied panel showing the staghead and crown crest and motto of the Gordon Highlanders. Front sides of other mounts with applied relief panels of thistles. Retaining the original knife and fork en suite to the dirk, the knife blade also marked Hamilton & Inches.
Condition: Excellent blade in perfect condition. Silver mounts showing unpolished patina.
