A rare archers sallet
probably North Italian, second half, 15th century
Rounded one-piece skull with low comb and pierced at the apex with a circular aperture for attaching a crest. Flared, pointed neck guard with applied rim. Retaining most of the lining and chinstrap rivets. The interior and parts of the exterior retaining areas of ferruginous material, possibly the remains of the leather or cloth lining/covering.
Condition: Dark patina showing pitting overall, several holes and a fracture to the right side of the brow.
