One of only four complete matching sets

Created in honor of Nelson Mandela's 80th birthday, this vibrant set of eleven fountain pens celebrates the life and work of the great South African statesman. Richly ornamented in platinum, gold, silver and diamonds, each pen represents a chapter or theme from Mandela's life. Only four complete sets with matching numbers were distributed. One set was retained by OMAS; one was presented to Mr. Mandela; one went to the South African government; and the final set was obtained by Mr. Wilmore.

Set number 80, considered the most desirable, was reserved for the South African government. By means of persistent negotiation, Mr. Wilmore was able to procure this set, and the South African government graciously accepted another in its place. This is the only complete set with matching numbers ever offered for public sale, and seems certain to remain so.
