Footnotes

  • This suite is rare. It is one of the limited creations from the French jewelry house, M. Gérard during their 20 years of business, beginning in 1968. M. Gérard, founded by Louis Gerard, previously of Van Cleef & Arpels, was renowned for its immediate success opening stores in Geneva, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Luscanne, Gstaad, and London within the first decade. The jeweled creations were notable and characterized by superb manufacture, minimal use of metal and superior quality diamonds and specimen gemstones. This suite exemplifies the extraordinary fluidity, flexibility and suppleness for which M. Gérard is recognized. It also reflects sensitivity to fashion, a shift to yellow gold, and the infusion of then popular Mughal motifs are expressed in large circulars pendant earrings, bracelet and sautoir defined by bold, graphic and rhythmic patterns with diamonds.
