Footnotes
The provenience of this doll is difficult to ascertain. It is not made of cottonwood, the medium for all Hopi dolls, but rather of pine. That fact points to a potential Zuni attribution, but the unusual flat style of the carving, the less elongated body type - more characteristic of the Zuni aesthetic, and the lack of articulated appendages potentially point to some other unidentified Pueblo.
