1901-S $20 MS64 PCGS
Possessing eye-popping luster that cascades and shimmers its way around the circumference of the coin, this piece displays considerable pizzazz. This issue is challenging to locate in Choice condition and exceedingly rare in Gem grades, as PCGS has graded only two pieces at that level, one MS65 and one MS66 coin, which is the highest graded example by either of the two major grading services. For its part, NGC has certified a mere 5 representatives in MS65 condition, none higher. This data makes the acquisition of this glittering coin much more compelling. The texture reflects a deep, honey-gold color, while the strike is impeccably sharp. Tiny abrasions are present, but none are obtrusive and these are merely commensurate with the assigned grade. The glittering luster of the coin really gives it a flashy, memorable look, one that an appreciative collector will proudly display as part of a noteworthy collection of double eagles. (PCGS 9040)
