1848-O $10
A couple of tiny marks on the face and minor striking softness on the stars and the eagle's neck. Just 35,850 pieces were minted. Pleasing medium yellow-gold with semi-reflective luster in the fields and a partially frosted appearance on some of the raised devices. The 1848-O is another branch mint eagle that is exceedingly rare in higher grades, particularly Mint State, even more than the mintage would indicate. When one is offered, it is invariably Very Fine or Extremely Fine at best - far substandard to this piece. Just a few equivalent specimens known, this creates a tremendously important opportunity for the gold coin specialist. (PCGS 8600) Choice Uncirculated
