1806 Knobbed 6 $5 MS61 NGC
BD-6, R.2. BD-6 is the only die pairing of the date with stars arranged 7x6 on the obverse and with a Knobbed or Round Top 6 in the date. With a sharp-to-full strike and freedom from sizeable abrasions, the importance of this coin for Mint State type purposes should be of obvious to advanced gold collectors. Luster is full and vibrant, the surfaces with a satiny-to-softly frosted texture. The dominant color is a medium-gold shade, although we do note a few blushes of slightly bolder olive-gold iridescence scattered about. What we do not see, however, are singularly distracting handling marks or other worrisome blemishes. As nice as you could hope for at the MS61 level, and certain to make its way to an advanced cabinet of early gold issues. (PCGS 8089)
