1800 $5 MS62 NGC
BD-5, High R.3. BD-5 vies with BD-2 as the most readily obtainable die marriage of the 1800 Bust Right half eagle. Survivors are still scarce in an absolute sense, however, and Mint State examples are decidedly rare from a market availability standpoint.
With pretty golden-orange patina to boldly impressed devices, the importance of this coin for high-grade type purposes should be obvious to many bidders. The surfaces reveal no individually distracting abrasions, and only wispy handling marks and shallow luster breaks explain why this coin did not receive a Select rating. For the grade, a very appealing example of a challenging early half eagle type. (PCGS 8082)
