1854-O $3
Scarce and desirable as 1854 was the first year of issue of the denomination, and the New Orleans Mint is reasonably scarce with a mintage of just 24,000 pieces. Naturally the vast majority were melted or lost long ago. Natural yellow-gold in color, with smooth wear. The surfaces show minor handling marks and nicks, and the strike is a trifle soft at the center of the reverse, common to this date and mint. A solid collector coin. (PCGS 7971) Extremely Fine
