1853 Arrows & Rays 25C MS64 PCGS
A reduction in the weight of the quarter dollar from 6.68 grams to 6.22 grams as mandated by the Act of February 21, 1853 led to the creation of this important one year type. For only in 1853 did the Philadelphia and New Orleans Mints strike Seated quarters with arrows flanking the obverse date as well as a glory of rays around the reverse eagle. Perfect for inclusion in a high grade type set, this lovely P-mint example is modestly toned in mottled gunmetal-gray colors with rich, underlying satiny luster. A razor sharp strike and smooth looking surfaces are also praiseworthy attributes. Definitely at the upper reaches of the assigned grade level. (PCGS 5426)
