This extraordinary table was originally conceived by Francois Linke (1855-1946) for the Paris Exposition universelle of 1900, which was the event that brought Linke into the international spotlight. This model was very popular, and Linke continued to produced between 1900 and 1939, always lavishing particular care on the quality of the marquetry and bronzes, particularly in the examples produced before 1920. Today, the "coquille" table remains one of the signature pieces of the most celebrated cabinetmaker of the early 20th century.
