- This coffee pot was presented to Deborah Franklin Duane, Benjamin Franklin's granddaughter through his daughter Sarah, as a mark of respect both for her own merits and for those of her husband, a former Secretary of State to the US Treasury. William Duane had been forced out of office for refusing to carry out what he regarded as the unlawful instructions of President Andrew Jackson with regard to the nation's deposits.
