Black letter. 2 woodcut plates only (of 3), woodcut illustrations throughout. Modern half calf. Lacking first volume title and 21 other text leaves, many losses and repairs to edges occasionally affecting text, some softening and holes, side-notes trimmed close and occasionally shaved, a few headlines cropped, vol 2 title laid down, plates with loss.

Fourth edition of Foxe's Book of Martyrs (as it was later known), and the last to be published in his lifetime. The first English edition was published in 1563. "Acts and Monuments made Foxe England's first literary celebrity.... The renown Foxe won as a martyrologist fuelled, and was fuelled by, his reputation as an extraordinarily popular and influential London minister" (ODNB). STC 11225.
