Folio (415 x 280 mm). Chromolithographed title, map, and 24 plates mounted on card. Original pictorial cloth gilt. Title lightly spotted, several plates repaired or trimmed at edges, a few working loose, 3 with tears reaching captions, one text leaf torn at margin, rebacked preserving original spine.

FIRST EDITION, charting the laying of the first transatlantic submarine cable, between Ireland and Newfoundland.
