Folio (291 x 185 mm). [6], 420, [24] pp. Engraved additional title, portrait, 36 folding plates and numerous engraved views within text. Modern half morocco; slipcase. Lacking map, engraved title and several plates laid down, numerous small repairs with some losses, some shoulder notes shaved, sold with all faults.

FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN. Nieuhoff was the authoritative European writer on China in the 17th century. He traveled 1500 miles from Canton to Peking from 1655 to 1657 and published many of the first city and village views of China.
