8vo (151 x 93 mm). A-S8 R4. Vignette on title, decorative initials. Near period full vellum gilt, all edges gilt.
Il Pastor Fido was an early pastoral drama, thought by scholars to have directly influenced Shakespeare's writing of All's Well that Ends Well and Measure of Measure (see Hunter, Arden Shakespeare) and more generally As You Like It. Since Il Pastor Fido was not translated into English until 1602, it is likely that Shakespeare knew it from an edition in the original Italian such as this one.
