4 volumes. 8vo (202 x 125 mm). iv, [5]-404, [4]; 372, [4]; 364, [4]; 342, [3] pp. Engraved title in each volume and with 51 hand-colored plates and 1 uncolored plate. Full mottled calf by R. Wallis, raised bands, gilt spine compartments, morocco spine labels, gilt double rule to covers, dentelles, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Intermittent toning to leaves, some rubbing to joints, covers, and spines.

FEATURING THE ORIGINAL ISSUE OF DOCTOR SYNTAX under the title of "The Schoolmaster's Tour." Abbey notes that the poem "was composed by William Combe from the drawings of Rowlandson, and not, as would be expected, vice versa." Abbey Life 214; Tooley 421.
