Folio (460 x 315 mm). [4], 32, [140], [2] pp. 71 hand-colored aquatint plates including double-page view of Constantinople. Early 20th century morocco extra: red morocco over crushed red morocco, the borders between being broad bands of onlaid green morocco gilt with repeating spirals; spine gilt in 6 compartments; green morocco doublures, bordered with deep elaborate gilt dentelles. Very occasional light spotting to text, binding extremities lightly rubbed.
Provenance: James Frothingham Hunnewell [1832-1910], noted Boston book collector (his Charlestown, Massachusetts bookplate dated 1902).

LAVISHLY BOUND. In addition to the 46 plates after drawings owned by Sir Robert Ainslie which had appeared in William Watts' Views in Europe and Asia (1801), this first collected edition includes new views of Sicily, Gozo, Samos and Ephesus, places which Mayer had visited in 1792 or perhaps earlier.
