Engraved colored frontispiece and title in each volume, and 30 colored aquatint plates by Alken, Dighton, Brooke, Rowlandson, etc. Full morocco with gilt ruled spine compartments and covers, gilt spine titles, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Slight toning to a few plates, repair to plate facing p 592 in vol 2, spines slightly rubbed.

FIRST EDITION, SECOND ISSUE. Third issue of plate facing p 108 in volume one. Contains the two plates not included on the list of plates. This imitation of Egan's Life in London matched, if not surpassed, the original in popularity. An unusually complicated title from a bibliographic standpoint, copies are commonly found with plates from various issues within the first edition, as in the case of the present copy.
