Large 8vo (240 x 147 mm). vi, [2], 402 + [2], 8 ad pp. Hand-colored additional title and 35 hand-colored plates (three are mounted and bear no captions). Full red morocco gilt by Riviere, spine gilt in 6 compartments, top edge gilt. Rebacked with old spine laid down, light wear to extremities, upper hinge cracked and f.f.e. started.
Provenance: Thomas William Waller (period armorial bookplate).
FIRST EDITION, "considered by many to be the premier coloured sporting book in the 19th century" (Tooley 65). Early issue with 3 plates mounted and no captions; the first issue had 4 mounted plates with printed titles and the later issues had no mounted plates.
