Folio (332 x 260 mm). vi, 56, 72, 27, 32, 34, 22, 40, 34, 43 pp. 48 hand-colored plates, mostly aquatint. Full crimson morocco, elaborately tooled and bordered in gilt and black, large figure of a scholar on upper cover, all edges gilt. Custom cloth slipcase. Faint offsetting from some plates, scattered light spotting towards end, light rubbing to extremities.

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with the washerwomen and printed slip in "Charter House from the Playground" (plate 26), and the bareheaded masters in "Westminster School Room" (plate 23), however with watermarks in text of "Westminster" dated 1816. Abbey Scenery 438; Tooley 3.
