HOLLAR, WENCESLAUS, illustrator.
JUVENAL. Mores hominum. The Manners of Men, Described in sixteen Satyrs. London: R. Hodgkinsonne, 1660.
Folio (430 x 272 mm). [xiv], 522, [xxx] pp. Translated by Robert Stapylton. Additional engraved title; portrait of the translator; and 16 engraved plates. All but the portrait are by Hollar. Modern half calf. Some spotting and toning, occasional marginal dampstain, stain to binding near lower joint.
Provenance: P. Tyrwhitt (period ownership inscription at head of engraved title).
Second edition of Stapylton's translation. It appears that the early owner of this copy, P. Tyrwhit, has composed a burlesque poem on the final blank, in part "that a deluge of sport may follow / in her arms I will roll & wallow."
