Engraved allegorical frontispiece, 10 plates of subscribers' arms, 75 plates, some of which are by Francis Barlow. Period speckled calf. Wanting final blank, a few plates shaved close, very unobtrusively rebacked preserving original spine.
Provenance: member of the Crawley-Boevy family (anonymous armorial bookplate).

FIRST EDITION. The first part deals with all manner of arts and sciences including navigation; the second with horsemanship, hunting, hawking, fishing, agriculture etc., including well-executed plates with engraved dedications below the image. Schwerdt notes that "perfect copies are rarely found; the imprimatur leaf, some of the plates of arms, especially the 10th, and the plate of horsemanship inscribed to Sir John Skeffington [all present here], are often missing."
