Pale dampstaining to pp 3-10, a few characters obscured p 10, a few headlines partially shaved, rubbing to joints and edges.
EARLY EDITION OF THE FIRST EMBLEM BOOK. First published in 1531, Alciato's Emblemata initiated the genre of emblem books which remained enormously popular throughout the 16th and 17th centuries. The present edition was one in a series of Lyon editions by Bonhomme and Roville printed from the same blocks. Green 51.
