Each obelisk of usual form entwined at the base with an amusing figure of a monkey, arms wrapped as if clinging to a tropical tree trunk, both on a silvered wood plinth base.

  • Singerie sur obelisk continues an enchantment with captivating monkey figures in human settings, sometimes dressed in exotic clothing that dates to the mid 18th century. Chateau de Chantily had a Grande Singerie decorated with monkeys attired in Chinese costume, and the Pavilion of the third duke of Marlborough was decorated with a Singerie painting by Andieu de Clement completed in 1740.
