A Safavid brass-hilted steel Dagger Bokhara, 16th/ 17th Century
the hilted of waisted form with lobed pommel and down-turned quillons with dragon head terminal (one deficient), the steel blade with opening on median ridge 24 cm. long
A dagger with a similar hilt can be found in the Furusiyya Art Foundation (Mohamed, Bashir, The Arts of the Muslim Knight, Milan, 2007, p. 179, no. 167). The note for the Furisiyya dagger draws reference to Bokhara 16th Century miniature paintings, including a miniature by Mu'n Musavir dated AH 1082/ AD 1672, which depicts a group of Bokharans trying to control a lion, with two of them wearing a dagger of this type.
