North India, Kashmir, late 18th/early 19th Century
Arabic manuscript on paper, 261 leaves, 18 lines to the page written in neat and clear naskhi script in black ink, gold roundels between verses, interlinear gilt decoration throughout, inner margins ruled in blue and gold, catchwords, illuminated devices and gilt-decorated bands in outer borders, sura headings written in thuluth script in blue ink on gold panels, three double-pages of illumination in colours and gold at beginning, middle and end of manuscript, corners slightly thumbed otherwise in good condition, floral lacquer binding, covers decorated with stylised floral arrangements issuing from vases in red, black and brown on a gold ground, outer borders decorated with floral motifs, doublures with stylised floral arrangements in colours and gold on a black ground decorated with small vegetal motifs in gold, in good condition
