A Cased Gold-Decorated 50-Bore Adams 1851 Patent Self-Cocking Percussion Revolving Carbine
the carbine (no. 520), mid-19th Century
with rifled octagonal sighted barrel leaf-sighted to 300 yards, frame, hammer-hood, cylinder, scroll trigger-guard and butt-plate all decorated at a later date with Indian koftgari flowering foliage and scrollwork, gilt safety-stop, arbor-pin catch, arbor-pin and trigger, and butt painted in polychrome and gilt with flowering foliage; with its highly-figured mahogany case fitted and lined in green velvet with accessories comprising: ivory-gripped plug bayonet and powder-flask en suite with the carbine; circular ivory patch-box; ivory-handled combined ramrod and cleaning rod; turnscrew and nipple wrench, all carved with flowering foliage against a hatched ground; foliate engraved brass bullet mould and circular oil bottle; and circular brass cap dispenser, the case mounts decorated en suite with the carbine, each corner mount depicting an elephant amidst foliage, and with a peacock at the centre of the shaped escutcheon
