India, 18th/ 19th Century
the double-edged steel blade of tapering form, the forte decorated on both sides with gold inlay with a cartouche of mihrab form containing a repeated design of cruciform motifs terminating in a palmette, embossed on one side with two impressed inscription cartouches, one in Persian, the other in nagari, the hilt of pale greeny-brown agate carved in the round with faceted grip bursting into a spray of four leaves, the bifurcated pommel with knop finial, trefoil either side to top of blade
