  • The subjects are as follows:

    A prince out hunting on horseback catching sight of a beautiful princess imprisoned in a fortress, from the Haft Paykar of Nizami. (The couplet above is a later addition and comes from a ghazal of Hafiz).

    Layla sitting in a palm grove with female attendants, thinking of her beloved Majnun before Ibn Salam asks for her hand, from Nizami's Layla va Majnun.

    Solomon enthroned as a prophet attended by a vizier, angels, djinns and wild beasts, accompanied by couplets from a ghazal of Hafiz in which Solomon is mentioned.

    Dervishes drinking wine, accompanied by couplets from a ghazal of Hafiz (with a few differences from the accepted text) on that subject.
