Safavid Persia, probably Shiraz, dated AH 1011/AD 1602-03
Arabic manuscript on gold-sprinkled paper, 313 leaves, 15 lines to the page written in clear naskhi script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points in black, gold discs between verses, the words khums and ashr written in thuluth in gold in outer margins, colophon written in thuluth in gold, inner margins ruled in blue, red and gold, sura headings written in elegant thuluth in gold within blank rectangular panels, one double page of fine illumination in two shades of gold and some colour, remargined and repaired, dampstaining, black morocco, covers with stamped central medallions of gilt leather onlay decorated with floral motifs and serrated leaves, rebacked, doublures of red leather with sunken central medallions exquisitely decorated with gilt leather filigree on a blue ground, slightly worn, with green cloth bag
