A Tenor Oboe attributed to Johann Andreas Konigsberger, Roding, circa 1740
Stamped .A. Kinigsbergr.. with matching Fleur-de-Lys brand on bell, centre and upper joint, overall length 799mm (31 7/16in) with three brass keys, one with fishtail, articulated (length 135mm), the upper joints probably plum wood/walnut, the bell of stained boxwood, use and wear. (1)

    The tenor oboe was primarily used in late 17th and 18th century concert music and the theatre, for example, Henry Purcell's 'Dioclesian' (1690). J.S. Bach also used the instrument in many of his cantatas. The tenor oboe was superseded in the late 18th century by the English Horn (Cor Anglais).
