Autograph letter signed ("Yours very sincerely/ Edward R.G.R Evans") to Captain Scott's sister Grace ("Dear Miss Scott"), written en route home from the Antarctic for the last time and sending the expedition members' condolensces on the death of her brother ("I cannot tell you how great a gloom has been cast over us./ By Capt. Scott's death the Navy loses a great leader, and the Nation a gallant and honourable gentleman"); Evans goes on to reflect on his own near-death experience the year before ("I used to think so hard of my Hilda & what would she do. The whole train of thoughts is still so dreadfully vivid, that of all people here I think I feel & worry most"), and ends with the comforting thought that the names of Scott and his comrades "will be treasured by all as a man who died gallantly for the lasting honour of Britain", 2 pages, on British Antarctic Expedition headed notepaper, vertical and horizontal creases where folded, 4to, ""Terra Nova" at Sea.
