("Sir"), requesting that his goods from the Discovery be delivered to his new address at 56 Oakley Street, Chelsea: "I should like you to unpack and place the things in a room in the house in much the same order in which they were in my cabin onboard the Discovery...carpet, chair etc.--", 3 pages on a single bifolium of headed notepaper, franked on first page by Pickford's "Passenger Office, Poplar", with franked and stamped envelope addressed to Pickford's, High Street, Poplar, and labelled "immediate", some spotting, 8vo, 80 Hospital Road, Chelsea, 'Oct 13th', [1904?]

  • Scott moved to 56 Oakley Street in 1904 with his mother and two sisters and resided there for four years having previously lodged, again with his sisters, at 80 Hospital Road where much of the Discovery Expedition planning took place. A manuscript note, in pencil, on the envelope reads: "Letter of Capt. Scott the Antarctic explorer given me by Mr. Gilman of Pickford's." See illustration overleaf.
