As John Laing mentiones in his brief foreword, "the journal I kept when on board the Resolution in 1806, is taken as the basis for [A Voyage to Spitzbergen]". In the appendix he includes a table entitled "List of Greenland and Davis' Straits Ships, from Holland, since the year 1661, with the number of Fish caught each year" and includes accounts of the Dutch, English and American whale-fisheries.
